2022 Travel Recap

Our 2022 was another eventful year. I loved taking a moment to reflect on our travels over the last 12 months and the people we were able to connect with along the way.

The biggest adventure this year was moving from Washington to Wyoming. We loved our seven years in Washington and could definitely see ourselves back there someday, but there’s a whole wide world out there and only so much time to see it so we made the leap.

Wyoming has been on our short list, and Cheyenne’s proximity to Denver International Airport was definitely a determining factor as we plan to increase our travel in the short term. The move also cut the drive time to Ohio in half so we look forward to having new options for traveling to see family and friends.

2022 By the Numbers

Looking through my monthly photo recap below, I noticed some interesting 2022 stats:

  • 2 addresses (Washington, Wyoming)
  • 4 countries (Belize, France, Luxembourg, Canada)
  • 6 national parks (Saguaro, Haleakea, Rainier, Badlands, Wind Cave, Grand Teton)
  • 16 states (Hawaii, Arizona, North Carolina, South Dakota, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio)

Fun Fact: Google Maps let me know I’ve traveled at least 47,864 miles this year, which takes me 1.9 times around the world!

What’s ahead in 2023?

Right now 2023 is a bit of an unknown, at least as far as our careers are concerned. I think we’ve done a good job embracing uncertainty, controlling what we can control, and scenario/contingency planning to the best of our ability. We intend to take a sabbatical in 2024, and if the stars align such that we initiate that plan at some point in 2023 instead, we’re prepared to do that.

Regardless of what happens at work, we have some incredible personal events and activities we’re looking forward to: my brother-in-law and future sister-in-law’s wedding, family birthday parties, trips to Europe and South America, winter outdoor activities, new national parks, and the world’s largest rodeo, to name a few!

May the new year bring you the kind of adventures you desire, whatever those may be. Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a very happy start to 2023.
