We packed a lot of sight-seeing into our long weekend in Belgium. In addition to snagging some hours here and there in Brussels, we also took the train to some nearby cities.
In the posts below, I share why these spots are my top three day trips from Brussels. In order of personal preference:
If you have a little more time, I’d also recommend catching the train to Luxembourg. I spent a day exploring the walled capital and was very pleasantly surprised with its beauty and how much there was to do!
I had a number of other nearby and lesser known towns on my list that I simply didn’t have time to explore. The next time I find myself day tripping from Brussels, I plan to check out:
- Leuven – home to Stella Artois and Leffe, known for its breweries
- Tervuren – beautiful architecture and parks
- Lier – Grote Markts, astronomical clocks, and Gothic churches
- Orval – abbey, brasserie
